REWRITE YOUR MONEY SCRIPTS to

Max Your Wealth Building Potential

Hello everyone, I'm Dr. Amanda Barrientez, founder of ABi Coaching.

If this is your first time here, this is your place where you'll learn actionable strategies to help you maximize your potential so you can lead a rich life and business.

Today we're going to talk about how to REWRITE YOUR MONEY SCRIPTS so you can reconstruct your money blueprint so you can maximize your wealth building potential.

Have you ever noticed that people have

deeply embedded stories about money and

it seems like a topic we shouldn't be talking about?

It's so shame producing that it's like talking about sex at the dinner table with your grandma! People judge others who have a lot of money if they didn't have to work hard for it. People who are poor feel embarrassed to talk about money. People who are rich feel guilty talking about money. The list goes on and on and on.

I have yet to meet one person or work with any client who doesn't have blocks and shame and triggers around money.

So I love, love, love helping people overcome their money blocks and one of the first steps is learning about how to rewrite your money scripts – what shapes them and how you can get conscious so you can empower yourself in your money world.

What is a money script?

Money scripts are the lessons you've learned over your life course about money, and these collectively construct your money blueprint. These are learned in interpersonal, relational interactions and through cultural influences. It's what we observe in money exchanges, the things we experience in interactional exchanges and what we have been verbally told about money.

Money scripts are constructed by your family and your cultural system. Things like your religious leaders, the institutions you interact with, teachers, the schools, your sexual orientation, your gender identity, your family's socioeconomic status, and even the media are all teaching you lessons and informing your scripts about money which collectively come together to create your money blueprint.

Let me give you some examples...

Let's think about your family structure. Maybe you grew up in a household where you had a dad as the breadwinner and your mom has the stay at home mom. You might be running a script that men are more financially empowered than women. Or maybe you grew up in a single mother household where your mom was a powerful CEO and you have the script operating that women should never be financially dependent on men. Maybe you grew up in a household with two dads and one stayed home and the other worked and the one making money, was resentful that the one staying home got to relax so he had judgment around that. So, your script is that money is stress and it causes relationship strife.

So in these scripts, what's embedded is a relationship between gender, money and power. Those are things that you're going to carry into your relationship to money.

Then you've got your outside influences.

Let's say you grew up in a religious family where you were taught that money was the root of all evil. So you might be running an unconscious script that if you make a lot of money, you’re bad and evil. Or maybe your teachers taught you that teaching was their greatest passion, but they complained that they didn't make a lot of money. So, you have an underlying script that you can't have both – you can't have a career you love while also making a lot of money.

So, you can see how collectively these stories start to intersect to shape your scripts, which also collectively shape your money blueprint and has you operating out of sometimes conscious, sometimes unconscious places that are writing the scripts and operating how you interact with and relate to money.

The key takeaway is that these money lessons that we learned from those around us - our relational interactions and our cultural influence - are shaping our money scripts and collectively informing our money blueprint.

If you grew up in a familial and cultural environment where you talked about money, it was functional and flowing, and people felt healthy around it, then you're likely to have adopted money scripts that are going to help you build wealth.

If you grow up in an environment where there's a lot of shame, guilt, fear, and judgment around money, then you're likely to have adopted those scripts and it's going to block you in your flow of earning, saving, investing, and building your wealth.

So, in order for you to understand your money scripts, you've got to start to get conscious and curious about the things that you observed, were told and experienced around money.

This will help you to gain clarity so you can rewrite your money scripts and empower your ability to max your money making potential and your wealth building potential.

ACTION STEPS

Alright, to apply what you've learned today, so you can rewrite your money scripts, I want you to consider the four following questions:

  1. What was your very first memory of money?

It could have been something that you've experienced directly, something you observed -- just something that stands out in your memory as your very first money memory.

  1. I want you to think about what you observed growing up around money exchanges.

This could be in the movies, with your parents, with teachers at school, with anyone in your surroundings. What were you observing going on in terms of money exchanges?

  1. What were the experiences you had?

These would be direct experiences you had in money exchanges.

  1. What were you verbally told about wealth, wealthy people and money in general?

What were those direct messages you got from the relationships and the people around you that informed your money scripts?

Getting conscious and curious about this will help you raise your awareness so that you can see what's shaping your thoughts, actions, and behaviors – your money habits – so that you can then rewrite the scripts and transform your relationship with money.

Remember, if you become a master of money

then your money won't master you.

This is critically important if you're interested in building wealth, which looks different to all of us. Some people have a very clear idea of how they want to build their wealth and what number they want to get to. Other people feel lost in the weeds.

I want you to gain clarity and consciousness around this so you have the power to choose your net worth, to choose how you build that relationship to money so that you can empower yourself to max and reach your potential in your moneymaking adventures.
